Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports
As we seek to fulfill our district vision to be “a community of excellence,” our work to provide all students with a positive environment for learning is ongoing. Our Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) program at Keller uses Husky High Fives as a way to promote positive behavior throughout our building. The Husky High Five program serves as a reminder to use these Essential Agreements:
· We Are Respectful
· We Are Safe and In Control
· We are Responsible Learners
On a regular basis, our staff members teach students specific applications for these behaviors in different areas of our school. Click here to see our PBIS webpage that provides applications of these behaviors across our building. Our building PBIS Committee – consisting of Ms. Kirsten Leestma, Mrs. Amy Liefer, Mrs. Gail Zipser, Mrs. Susanne DeWolfe, Mrs. Marcie Dryden, Mrs. Karen Kaiser, and Mrs. Laura Stankiewicz- meets quarterly to monitor and support the implementation of our PBIS at Keller Elementary.
Bully Prevention
Bully Prevention is integrated in our PBIS program. Imbedded within our International Baccalaureate program, students at Keller are taught specific Bully Prevention strategies. To view sample lessons and strategies, click here to view one of the resources used in Bully Prevention lesson development. This resource is supplemented by other resources to which Keller teachers have access. To view a lesson in action, click here.
Our District Policy on Bullying is Policy 5517.01; it may be reviewed by following the link to our district policies available on our website. District level support for our building PBIS and Bully Prevention programs includes special services staff that are available to support program development and to assist us in specific situations.
